Unveiling my new drawing! “Path of Light”Gold leaf, ink, watercolor, and coffee on paper. 26×40″This is a special piece to me. The juniper and sheep skull are from an area where my grandfather like to spend as much time as possible—a place he held close to his heart. I remember being out there with him, sitting in the sun, eating saltine crackers and kipper snacks. I remember him gazing out over the desert with his eyes fixed on the horizon as he said, “that sure is a lot of country.” Looking back on that moment I realize he was reflecting on more than the landscape, he was reckoning with his entire life. In that moment, that horizon and his reckoning are forever fused for me—Life, death and the desert inextricable connected.
